Something very special is happening here in Detroit tomorrow.  And it has nothing to do with Detroit 187.”

Jeff Pulver, founder of the 140 Characters Conference is bringing  the show to the Motor City.  And those of us who live and work here couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.

I wrote about this incredible event last month, but the big day is now upon us at the historic Fillmore in Detroit.  Jeff also has organized a Day of Giving (today) in Detroit.

There is a palpable feeling of excitement here in Detroit.  Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler are making their respective comebacks.  Hollywood movies are being shot here every week.

Below is a link to the Faces of the #140conf Detroit Community – a diverse group of local communicators, of which I’m proud to be a part.

Jeff has brought this incredible conference to cities around the country and the world from Boston and Los Angeles to Tel Aviv.  Hopefully, it will eventually end up in your city or town.

Clarkposse My 10 minute talk is about The DNA of Classic Rock and how the format has created its communities and tribes.  Other sessions run the gamut:

Channel 7 anchorman Stephen Clark, and creator of #BackChannel, an innovative way to connect audience with a television news department.

Patrick Starzan, head of marketing for Funnyordie.com.

General Motors’ social media guru, Christopher Barger, who helped put this conference together.

Bing And even Detroit Mayor Dave Bing who will welcome this gathering to his rapidly changing city.

So with good weather already assured, here’s hoping this group enjoys a couple of days of coney dogs, Vernor’s, a burger at the Red Coat, some great local music, and the chance to share ideas about community and the real-time Web.

When you think about all the different ways in which our world has changed in justPulver the past few years, events like the 140 Characters Conference are now a part of our learning and interacting.

That’s a good thing.

Thanks, Jeff Pulver and everyone who has contributed this event.

As a former Detroit radio veteran, I always pull for the Motor City (and the great mentoring of Fred Jacobs).
Good to hear PROGRESS being nurtured in Detroit.
    P.S. I even watch Detroit 187!

Thanks, Sky. As we say about Detroiters, you can check out but you can never leave…in spirit. Appreciate you taking the time.

Awesome that radio people will be there. I’ve been to 140 in Philly and didn’t bump into another radio person. It is vital that radio folks become engaged with these events.
